Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle pick-up. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance information, associated charges, and your responsibilities for the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Rental Vehicle Requirements
- To rent a vehicle from Nelson Car Hire, you must be at least 21 years old. Age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with potential extra charges for drivers under 25. You need a valid driving licence that corresponds to the vehicle category, held for the minimum duration stated in the Rental Agreement. Please present valid identification and proof of your current address, along with payment information and a security deposit. Ensure you meet any other requirements outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, by phone, or directly at our Dartford office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment, along with a security deposit, is generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. Prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT when applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, with secure processing through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, you are required to examine the vehicle thoroughly and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be completed and must be signed by both parties. It is your responsibility to return the vehicle in the same condition it was collected, barring normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charges will apply accordingly. The vehicle should be returned with the same fuel level as at the start of the rental; otherwise, refueling fees will be imposed. Late returns may result in additional charges, so please contact us if you anticipate any delays. You will be held accountable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during the rental, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance, with full coverage details and excess amounts outlined in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to lower your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless additional coverage applies. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violations of these Terms remains your responsibility, irrespective of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and modification policies differ based on the type of booking and how much notice is provided. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Late cancellations or failure to show may incur charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of the Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful purposes or activities. This includes racing, off-roading, or other dangerous uses. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting to unauthorized individuals, allowing unapproved drivers, or operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs is forbidden. Users must adhere to passenger and weight limits and cannot drive beyond the designated geographical areas without prior consent.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Nelson Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount paid in the prior 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be resolved exclusively within English and Welsh courts.
Updates to Terms
We reserve the right to change these Terms at any time. Updates take effect immediately upon posting on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
